Absences & Makeups
Makeup classes are for absences that are unavoidable, such as because of illness or injury. The absence must be submitted in the parent portal before the start time of the missed class.
Makeup Class Eligibility
The online Absence Form must be submitted before the start time of the missed class. The reason for missing class must be included, and “Requesting makeup slip?” must be “Yes.”
Only classes missed due to injury or illness are eligible for a makeup class.
Makeups are valid for 6 weeks from the original missed class.
Makeups cannot be used for classes that have been dropped within 6 weeks.
Makeup classes are to be taken in addition to regularly scheduled classes.
Students must be currently enrolled in classes to attend a makeup class.
A maximum of 8 makeup classes are allowed per academic year. Any makeup required beyond this will require a doctor’s note for injury or sickness.
Makeup classes do not carry over from a previous academy year to the next.
Makeup Class Limitations
Makeups are not provided for personal schedule conflicts such as travel/vacation, family events, other after school activities or holidays outside of SCB closures, etc.
Notifying a staff member personally of an absence does NOT qualify you for a makeup.
Refunds are not given for missed classes and monthly tuition cannot not be adjusted in lieu of makeup classes.
Dancers cannot drop classes and use makeup classes to take the dropped classes.
Makeup slips cannot be used to take adult dance classes, or private lessons at SCB.
Makeup Policy Exceptions
The ONLY exception to our makeup policy will be extended illness, medical/family emergency, or injury with a doctor’s note.
Requesting a Makeup Slip & Making Up a Class
Submit an Absence Form in the parent portal BEFORE the start time of the missed class/classes.
You will receive an email to schedule your dancer’s make-up class if your dancer’s absence is approved for a makeup (see above policies for eligibility).
Makeup classes can only be scheduled via email (NOT by phone or in person) with the front desk in advance. Absence forms and makeup classes are only processed and scheduled Monday–Friday.
Makeup classes must be taken at the student’s class level or below. Go to socalballet.org/classes for a list of classes/levels.
You will receive an email to confirm that the dancer’s makeup class has been scheduled. If you have not received an email confirmation, the makeup class has not yet been scheduled.
