SCB Performer & Parent Manual

Performing or having a performer in a show can be stressful and the learning curve steep! For that reason we have created this manual for your reference and to help clarify procedures, rules and how to prepare for the theater experience…

The Basics Of Being In A Show

  • Check the production INFORMATION BOARD in the studio and the REMIND APP for changes to rehearsals.

  • Please BE FLEXIBLE!  Things change and force schedules to be changed.  It can be frustrating, but it happens.

  • NO JEWELRY is allowed on stage, dancers who have freshly pierced ears will need to cover their earrings with bandaids.

  • NO NAIL POLISH OF ANY KIND is allowed! Dancers who have acrylic, gel, or shellac nails will need to make an appointment to have these removed before the show, SCB will have nail polish remover backstage, but these types of nail polish cannot be removed safely without a professional.

  • HAIR must be kept a NATURAL hue (no bright/non-natural hair colors) for performances unless expressly authorized. If you are not sure what this means, please ask!

  • NO TEMPORARY TATTOOS even if they are under their tights, it will show.

  • RESPECT COSTUMES! NO EATING OR DRINKING anything but water in costume and always HANG COSTUMES up nicely when finished with them.

  • STAY IN YOUR OWN STAGING ROOM when not performing. Dancers should not be visiting other staging rooms. If you need something, ask a staff member or volunteer for help!

  • GIVE YOURSELF EXTRA TIME to get ready and commute to the theater.

Performance Preparation

  • PRACTICE YOUR HAIR & MAKEUP before the day of the show

  • PREPARE YOUR “SHOW BAG before the day of the show.

  • It’s always good to MAKE FRIENDS with other dancers’ parents. They can help keep you informed and also potentially carpool!

  • REMOVE NAIL POLISH!

  • ARRIVE at the theater PERFORMANCE READY with nude leotard and ballet tights (or correct undergarment) already on under your regular clothes

  • EAT WELL BEFORE coming to the theater. The day can be long and there is not always time to eat other than a quick snack out of costume.

Theater Drop Off & Pick Up

  • ARRIVEPERFORMANCE READY. The theatre address is: Poway Center for the Performing Arts (15498 Espola Road, Poway)

  • CHECK IN AT THE REGISTRATION DESK inside the Artist Entrance door, located on the south side of the building (on Titan Way).

  • RECEIVE YOUR CHECK-IN CARD with your dancers name on it. This will be used to pick up your dancer after the rehearsal/performance

  • We ask that ONLY ONE PARENT OR GUARDIAN come to the registration desk for pick up/drop.

  • IF YOU WILL NOT BE THE PERSON PICKING UP YOUR DANCER, we ask that you GIVE THE CHECK IN CARD to the adult who is authorized to pick them up OR LEAVE THE NAME & PHONE NUMBER of the adult responsible for your child with us.  We will ask to see a government issued ID for that individual to take your child home.

  • Any individual attempting to pick up a child who DOES NOT HAVE THIS CARD OR IS NOT ON THE LIST to pick up WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE A CHILD from the building.  We will check ID and will call parents for confirmation before a child can leave with another adult.

  • PLEASE BE PATIENT during check-in/out! It can become busy and our priority is making sure that every child is picked up safely by the appropriate person.

  • Sometimes dancers (particularly younger dancers) MAY FINISH EARLIER THAN THE SCHEDULED TIME. Please keep an eye on the remind app for notifications in the event that this happens.

  • ONLY HIGH SCOOL AGE DANCERS may leave the theater without a responsible adult!
